Vintage Guatemalan Santiago Matamoros Folk Art Sculpture
A vintage hand-carved and painted wood sculpture believed to depict Santiago Matamoros, the traditional Latin American image of Saint James on horseback. The wonderfully primitive construction includes articulated joints, leather reins and a white horse with boldly painted facial details.
Visible paint loss, scratches, cracking and general wear throughout, all consistent with its handmade construction and age. Exact maker and date are unknown.
