Vintage Architectural Model of the Basilica of San Lorenzo Façade, After Michelangelo Buonarroti

An intricate wooden architectural model based on Michelangelo Buonarroti’s unexecuted façade for the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, designed around 1518. Constructed from numerous individually shaped pieces of wood, the composition recreates the Renaissance design’s layered columns, recessed openings, circular panels, stepped moldings and central pediment in impressive detail.

This example is a later decorative reproduction after Michelangelo’s original design; its maker is unknown. In good vintage condition with minor surface wear, natural tonal variation and small separations or irregularities between some of the assembled elements. Hanging hardware is attached to the reverse allowing it to sit table top or be mounted to the wall.
